Music

Are you someone who enjoys singing or who has never been a member of a choir but would like to give it a go and get involved with the musical life at St Matthews!

We would be delighted to welcome you to be a part of our friendly, supportive choir.

We not only enjoy singing together but often socialise too.

Music plays an important part in the life of St Matthew’s church, enhancing the worship and liturgy of our weekly worship as well as the main festivals, seasons and special times in the Church’s year.

The choir is affiliated to the Royal School of Church Music and works to uphold its principles through our performance and work.

Each Sunday, the Sung Eucharist service is led by our robed choir, with weekly choir practices taking place each Thursday at 10.30 am and with extra practices for special occasions.

During choir practice, the choristers prepare for the following Sundays by exploring the theme through the music – the hymns and anthems and enjoy extending their repertoire.

The choir and organist are available to perform at weddings and enjoy being a part of a couple’s special day. More information is available when booking your wedding.

We are fortunate to have two wonderful instruments at St Matthews Church – a 2 manual pipe organ which was restored in 1990 with the addition of 2 extra stops and a Kawai Digital piano, which is tuned to the sound of a ‘Concert Grand piano’. It is used for our weekly choir practices as well as accompanying different styles of anthems during worship. St Matthew’s Church provides an excellent venue for musical concerts, with local schools and community choirs enjoying our facilities.
