St Matthew’s Church

All About Us

St Matthew’s is an inviting and inclusive faith community, warmly welcoming worshippers to our church whether it’s for Sunday worship or for life events such as baptisms, weddings or funerals: sharing a smile, offering a welcome and ‘being there’ for our church family and visitors as they step through the door.

Our main Sunday worship at St Matthew’s is at 11.00 am and is a traditional sung Holy Communion led by the priest and a robed choir. Afterwards, all are warmly invited to meet in the Church Hall for coffee and a chat.

The quiet said Eucharist is held on the 2nd and 4th Sundays at 8am. A midweek service is available on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays at 10am when everyone is welcome to stay for coffee and a chat in the church afterwards.

Times which we hope will suit your busy lives.

Children including babies and toddlers are always welcome at all our services. There is an activity corner at the back of church where they can play games or do arts and crafts.

When there is a fifth Sunday in the month, we join with other churches in the Rhôs a Mynydd Mission Area. Details can be found here on our website, the Rhôs a Mynydd website, St Matthews Facebook or in The Messenger magazine.

Special services are held to celebrate church festivals and for Harvest, All Souls etc. We join ecumenically with the other Buckley churches for occasions such as the Buckley Jubilee, Christmas carol service, local World Day of Prayer, Christian Aid Week and the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. St Matthew’s regularly hosts local Civic services such as the installation of the new Mayor of Buckley, the Civic Service of Remembrance and more recently for the Declaration service for the High Sheriff of Clwyd.

Details can be found here on the website, on St Matthew’s Facebook and in The Messenger magazine.

We are linked with the wider church through Mothers’ Union, RSCM, Christian Aid and other support groups and are represented in the ecumenical groups within the town through the Buckley Ministry Team, Cytûn and the Buckley Jubilee Committee.

There is a regular programme of social and fundraising events – open to all: BBQ, Wine Tasting, Quiz Night, Bingo, Afternoon Teas, Coffee Mornings and Share Lunches. Occasions to join in the fun and fellowship, meet up with friends or make new friends and enjoy the ‘camaraderie’!

Outreach includes support for the Buckley Foodbank, for the homeless and for prisoners at HMP Berwyn via the Angel Tree Project. A ‘Knit for Peace’ group meets weekly and is working to support refugees. We also have a World Mission donations plate at the rear of the church. We are proud to be a ‘Fairtrade’ and ‘Sight-Loss’ friendly Church and hold an Eco Bronze Award.

The Messenger magazine provides another form of communication within the church family and is circulated amongst the local community of Buckley and further afield.

St Matthews has a presence on Facebook where we keep the community informed of upcoming events and activities.

Our website provides all the important information and contact details which you will be looking for – service times, lifetime events, special services, events and activities.

Hope this short overview opens the door to life within our church family through our worship, our support and care for one another, our outreach and show of care to the community and the wider world, the sharing of our Christian faith with other churches in Buckley and the wider area, our sharing of interests, our joining together for fun and fellowship.

Welcome to St Matthews!
